With 27 years of experience, Kim Morrison is a globally recognized proven leader and technical expert in the resource development and mining industry, particularly within the ESG (environmental, social, governance) space. For five years, from 2019 to 2024, Kim served as the global function lead for tailings, dams, and heap leach at Newmont’s corporate headquarters in Denver, Colorado, where she was responsible for oversight of this critical infrastructure, including leading the company’s implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and serving as the Chair of the Steering Committee for the GeoStable Tailings Consortium, which brought together ten global mining companies to study options to combine tailings and waste rock to create “geo-stable” landforms. Prior experience includes predominantly geotechnical and environmental consulting, including founding Morrison Solutions, an independent consultancy based in Denver, Colorado, in 2012.

Kim has authored or co-authored more than 40 technical publications. Most notably, she served as the managing editor for the Tailings Management Handbook: A Lifecycle Approach published by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). In 2020, Kim was named to the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIM100) and received the President’s Individual Citation Award from SME for significant individual contribution and leadership in the mining industry. In 2022, she received the Environmental Stewardship Distinguished Service Award from the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) and was selected to be featured in a temporary museum exhibit, Pioneering the Field: Women in Mining. In 2023, she was awarded the Jerry R. Bayless Alumni Merit Award from the Missouri University of Science & Technology, and, in 2024, was selected to receive the designation of SME Fellow, Class of 2024.
